It’s exciting… and it’s also been proper work.

From idea to sketch to model to print (repeat… a lot)

I think I had a slightly romantic idea of how this would go.

You know: design the thing, press print, and voilà — a neat little tool pops out perfectly formed.

The reality is that 3D printing (at least the way I’m learning it) is a seemingly endless cycle of:

• modelling

• printing

• testing

• noticing what’s not quite right

• tweaking

• printing again ( and usually again!)

Sometimes the change is tiny — a fraction of a millimetre — but it makes all the difference to how something feels in your hand, how it fits with other tools, or how strong it is where it needs to be.

The testing phase is where the product gets better

This is the part I’m learning to lean into and realising that the trialling and testing isn’t a delay, it’s the process. I went through this with my bag making, so I’m not sure why I thought this would be any different!

Because every issue I work through teaches me something:

• about what’s realistic for a print

• about where a design needs strengthening

• about how to make it smoother, cleaner, nicer to use

And honestly, it’s the same mindset as sewing, isn’t it? A toile, a test seam, unpicking when you need to — not because you “failed”, but because you’re making it right.

Quality takes time,and I’m learning to be okay with that

If I’m making tools that are going to sit on someone’s sewing table, I want them to look and feel good. I want them to work properly. I want them to last.

That means I’m practising being patient — letting quality take the time it takes, even when I’d love to rush ahead and show you everything immediately.

There’s something quite grounding about that, actually. Choosing to slow down, solve the problems, and come out the other side with a product that’s genuinely better.

What’s next

I’ll share more as the collection comes together — and I’ll definitely show you some of the behind-the-scenes prints, including a few of the wonky early attempts, because they deserve their moment too.

But for now, I’m still here, still making, still learning… and I’m really enjoying surprising myself with this new chapter of Albero.

Journeys still excite me. But I’ve been reminded recently that not all journeys involve leaving the comfort of your desk.

My current one is taking me along a path I would never have foreseen 10 years ago… and honestly, not even 2 years ago.

I grew up in a time when computers were around, but we weren’t using them in schools yet. Most of what I know has been picked up from family, or taught to myself. And if I’m honest, in a work environment I used tech only for the task I needed to do — and as long as everything behaved itself, I was fine.

It’s strange to think it’s mainly through my love of crafting that my confidence with tech has grown. A connection I wouldn’t have expected years ago.

In my sewing life, I’ve learned how to translate a self-drafted paper pattern into a digital file that can be downloaded and printed. I’ve learned how to use tools like Notion and Airtable to manage my workflows. I can keep an email list ticking along, schedule social media posts, and create and edit content reasonably well.

But it turns out that was only the beginning.

Since diving into the world of 3D printing, my head is permanently full of questions — especially when the software won’t do what I want it to do. I can see the thing I’m trying to make so clearly in my design book… so how do I get the program to see what I see?

It’s been three months since I began. There have been moments when I’ve genuinely thought, I’m never going to get to grips with this. I should just give up — because I’m not going to get it right, or make it good enough.

But I’ve spent my life instilling in my children: “Yes, you can do it,” and “You can do anything you want if you put your mind to it.” Which meant giving up was never really going to be the solution. My family wouldn’t let me.

So here I am, three months after unboxing the printer. What have I learned? What have I achieved?

Firstly: I can make sense of this stuff. I can make it work for me. If I take the program one piece at a time, each design teaches me a new tool — and it all starts to build.

Secondly: I’m so much better at finding answers. When I hit a wall, a YouTube search and a calm, step-by-step guide can be exactly what I need. It also reassures me that I’m not the only person who has struggled.

But perhaps the best thing is this: I truly believe now that if I can imagine something and sketch it out, I’ll be able to find a way to build it digitally too. It might take time — but I will get there.

And that makes me very happy.

So I’ll keep going on this journey. I’m excited about how much there still is to learn and experience. My favourite part is that there’s no final destination, no time restriction, and no limit to what I can achieve.

And this is where it starts to connect back to Albero again. Because what I’m learning isn’t just “computer skills” for the sake of it — it’s opening up new possibilities for the bags I love to make.

What I’m most excited about is how this supports the kind of craftsmanship I care about. My 3D printed bags aren’t about replacing the handmade part — they’re about expanding what handmade can include. The same thoughtful design process, the same attention to detail… just with a new way to create the parts I’ve been imagining.

Although a simple design, it reflects my love of simple, clean lines. I love the fact that the strap and drawstring bag can be switched out, making it super simple to team with many outfits. It’s elegant and understated. But the best bit? I managed to create a design where the metal hardware is actually part of the shell by pausing the printing at the relevant place, inserting the hardware and then resuming the printing. I love this feature. It makes the strap connection really secure and it elevates the finish to look really professional. But not everything has turned out as I expected straight away. Over the weekend I was working on a design for a clutch bag with a hinge at the base. I made a small sample which worked well, and so I incorporated it into a full-blown design. I chose a ‘fuzzy skin’ finish to the walls of the bag and set it to print. All looked great as it printed for a few hours. And then the moment of truth when I removed it from the plate. Would the hinge work? Sadly it did not. Selecting the ‘fuzzy skin’ finish had, in this instance, been something I hadn’t anticipated—it had basically fused my working hinge to itself. I re-printed just the hinge part of the bag to reassure myself that this was the reason for the failure, and was rewarded with a perfectly working hinge which will work well in future designs.

Failure really does make us better, even though at that moment it doesn’t feel like it. I know I have many more failures ahead of me, but the successes feel so much greater because of them. I would love to hear whether you have embarked on learning a new skill and how you have overcome the issues you encounter.

The “Flitting” Problem

People ( well, my massively supportive husband mainly) keep suggesting that I perhaps stop jumping from one idea to another and stick to a plan. But here’s what I’ve noticed: when something evolves, it opens up possibilities you never saw coming. Testing and exploring? That’s how you discover what works. It also scares me that life is way too short not to try things when you get the opportunity.

I love to sew, bags especially. The moment a design idea appears in my head, through to the final stitch, I’m completely absorbed. But I’m always thinking about how to make the next one better, more creative, more practical. Churning out the same thing over and over? Not for me. I suppose flitting is my jam.

The 3D Printer Arrives

Remember I mentioned we’d ordered a 3D printer? It arrived just before the new year, and honestly, it’s brilliant.

We did what anyone would do—printed a bunch of things we absolutely don’t need, just to watch the magic happen. But now comes the real challenge: learning the digital design software so I can create my own designs.

I know stretching your mind is important as you get older, and this will definitely do that. The frustrating part? I want to go from beginner to expert in an afternoon. Reality check: expert is a long way off.

Baby Steps (and 3 am Check-ins)

For the past three weeks, I’ve been working through YouTube tutorials, practising with basic shapes, and adding textures. Not groundbreaking, but necessary.

Then yesterday, a breakthrough. I designed and printed a full-size bag from scratch. It ran through the night, and yes, I did get up at 3 am to check on it, like having a baby in the house again.

It’s not perfect. But it has so much potential that I’m starting to believe I can actually learn this and make it work.

What I’m planning to make

I’ve got a lovely collection of patterns I’m eager to try. I haven’t stitched any garments for a long time, and I have a few patterns ready and waiting. But before I can get started, I have a few fabric shops to visit … all in the name of research, of course! I have also been sketching some new bag designs for Albero, and I am looking forward to moving these initial sketches into the prototype and development stages.

I’m particularly excited to experiment with 3D printing and incorporate this magical process into my designs. I don’t know what this will turn out like yet, but in my mind it looks incredible!!

But I’m also leaving room for spontaneity. Some of my favourite makes have been the ones I didn’t plan at all (or the ones which didn’t go to plan initially). Disaster moments can often show you a way around a problem which may never have occurred otherwise, developing and enhancing your skills along the way.

But there’s more…

As many of you know, I’m also involved in building PatternMatch with my daughters, Charlotte and Rebecca. PatternMatch is a visual search tool matching garment photos to indie sewing patterns. 2026 is shaping up to be an exciting year as we move closer to launch.

Throughout the year, I’ll be sharing more about our journey, along with the usual Albero updates, new pattern releases, and the occasional peek behind the scenes of running a small making business and building an app for sewists.

I don’t know about you, but it really is pretty difficult to detach yourself from the madness at this time of year, no matter how hard you try. Don’t get me wrong, I really love Christmas. It’s a fun time, and having the whole family in one place, all at the same time, feels like such a wondrous achievement, something so special. But what I don’t like is the ever-increasing pressure to have the ‘perfect’ Christmas. We are surrounded by images of perfect people sitting in perfect, mess-free homes, eating mountains of perfectly cooked and colour-coordinated food. Who even knows what a ‘perfect’ Christmas is? And by the way, if I choose not to have my tree up by the end of November, it doesn’t mean I’m the Grinch!

Life is full of pressures, and we really don’t need any more, especially at the time of year when we should all be enjoying time with friends and family. So this year, I am taking it a little slower. As a family, we do Secret Santa for the adults, and normal gifting for the children. I was a bit sceptical, and honestly, I do miss shopping for gifts for everyone. But who needs the financial burden at the end of the year and a bag full of well-meaning but inappropriate gifts to take home once the holidays are over?

The decorations are (almost) complete, my Secret Santa gift has arrived and is waiting to be wrapped, and my food shopping list is growing by the hour! I truly cannot wait until the fridge is full and I can relax and enjoy whatever comes my way - and with 2 grandchildren arriving, it’s going to get noisy!

Every year, more and more people choose not to send Christmas cards. And honestly, I completely understand why — December gets busy, we’re all trying to simplify, and cards often end up feeling like just another thing on the list.

But even so… I still really love this tradition.

There’s something so comforting about sitting down with a warm drink, thinking of someone you care about, and sending a small note out into the world. It feels gentle, intentional, and just a little bit magical — like pressing pause for a moment in the middle of the festive rush.

This year, instead of buying cards, I wanted to create something a bit more special. Something that won’t be popped into the recycling on Boxing Day, but tucked away and brought out again next year. And the year after that.

Why the Symbols Matter

Sewing pattern markings do a lot of behind-the-scenes work:

• Keep your fabric draping the right way.

• Show where to match pieces together.

• Add shape so your project fits beautifully.

• Prevent mistakes like flipped sleeves or off-grain cuts.

Think of them as your sewing GPS.

Quick Tour of a Pattern

• Pattern Envelope → picture of the finished item, fabric suggestions, sizes.

• Instruction Sheet → step-by-step sewing guidance and layout diagrams.

• Pattern Pieces → tissue or PDF sheets with all the lines, arrows, and symbols.

Most of the symbols you’ll need to decode live on the pattern pieces.

Symbols to Know

• Grainline Arrow → keep it parallel to the fabric’s selvedge so it drapes correctly.

• Cutting Lines → choose the outline for your size, then highlight before cutting.

• Seam Allowance → the space between edge and stitch. Check if it’s included.

• Notches → triangles/diamonds that line up seams (one = front, two = back).

• Darts → triangles that shape fabric at busts, waists, or hips.

• Dots & Circles → mark positions for pockets, gathers, or buttons.

• Fold Line → place on fold, don’t cut — it gives you a mirrored piece.

Transferring Markings to Fabric

• Tailor’s chalk (quick and erasable).

• Tailor’s tacks (thread markings, old-school but reliable).

• Tracing paper & wheel (great for darts/lines).

• Tiny snips at the edge (only for notches!).

• Fading or washable pens (quick and simple).

💡 Always test washable pens on a fabric scrap first.

Mistakes to Avoid

• Cutting before checking the layout diagram.

• Forgetting to transfer markings before removing the paper.

• Ignoring grainlines (leads to twisting or sagging).

• Mixing up notches (front vs back).

I often think about how different life feels when I’m making something. Not just busy with it — not rushing through steps to get it done — but really immersed in the process of creating with my own hands.

For me, that often means sewing. Cutting fabric, arranging pattern pieces on a table, hearing the rhythm of the machine, or feeling the satisfying tug of thread through fabric with a hand-stitch. But it doesn’t have to be sewing. It could be kneading bread, planting bulbs in the garden, sketching, knitting, or even fixing something that’s broken. There’s a common thread running through all of these activities: a deep sense of connection, satisfaction, and joy.

And yet, in a world where convenience is everywhere — where almost everything can be ordered, delivered, and outsourced — why does making with our hands feel so rewarding, even necessary?

Slowing Down in a Fast World

We live in a culture that celebrates speed and efficiency. Emails ping back and forth in seconds. Meals can be ready in minutes. Shops are open 24/7. We’re conditioned to believe faster is always better.

But making by hand resists that pace. It demands a slower rhythm. You can’t speed through cutting a pattern, or rush stitches without losing precision. And that slowness is exactly what feels so nourishing.

When I’m sewing, I notice time softening around the edges. An hour can pass, and I’ll look up in surprise at how absorbed I’ve been. This isn’t wasted time — it’s time spent with intention. Each step, however small, is part of the bigger picture, and there’s something deeply satisfying about giving yourself permission to take the long way around.

The Joy of Tangibility

So much of what we do today is invisible, intangible. We send emails, attend online meetings, tick tasks off digital to-do lists. By the end of the day, there may be little to see for all the effort we’ve put in.

Making with your hands is different. It gives you something you can hold. You start with raw materials — paper, thread, fabric — and end with a finished object. That object may be practical, like a bag, or decorative, like bunting, but either way it’s real.

There’s a quiet pride in that transformation. I often think of it like alchemy: turning flat sheets of fabric into something three-dimensional, useful, and beautiful. The shift from “before” to “after” is powerful. And every time you use or wear the thing you’ve made, you’re reminded of that power.

A Return to Mindfulness

Mindfulness has become a buzzword, but its essence is simple: being fully present in the moment. And making is one of the purest ways to practice it.

When I sit down with fabric and thread, my focus narrows. My hands are busy, my eyes are watching carefully, and my mind is following the rhythm. For a little while, everything else fades. Worries about tomorrow, deadlines, errands — they step aside.

This is what psychologists sometimes call flow: the state of being so absorbed in what you’re doing that you lose track of time. It’s deeply restorative, almost meditative. Sewing doesn’t just produce a finished item; it also gives me space to breathe, to pause, and to re-centre.

And the beauty is, you don’t have to be “good” at it to experience this. The calm and focus come from the process, not from perfection.

Expressing Who You Are

Another joy of making is the way it reflects you back at yourself. Even when following a pattern, there are endless decisions to make: the colours, the textures, the little touches that give a piece its character.

That choice is a kind of self-expression. A bag made in cheerful polka dots says something different than the same bag made in classic black leather. A headband sewn in bold tweed tells a different story than one in delicate linen.

When you make, you’re not just producing an object — you’re weaving in your taste, your creativity, your quirks. Even the so-called “mistakes” become part of that story. A slightly wonky stitch or an unexpected fabric pairing may end up being the detail you love most, because it makes the piece uniquely yours.

In a world of mass production, that uniqueness is precious.

Hands Remember What the Heart Knows

There’s also something deeply human about using our hands. Long before machines and screens, we survived and thrived through making: weaving, carving, stitching, building. It’s in our DNA.

When I sew, I sometimes think about the people who taught me, and the people who came before them. The skills pass down through generations, often quietly, almost invisibly, but they carry stories, traditions, and memories with them. Every stitch connects us to something older, something enduring.

That’s why making feels grounding. It roots us in the here and now, but also in a long lineage of hands that made before ours.

Sharing the Gift of Handmade

And then there’s the giving. Because making doesn’t only give joy to the maker — it spreads outward.

Have you ever given someone something handmade? The look on their face is different. They know it took time, thought, and care. A handmade gift says, “I made this especially for you.” It carries warmth and love in every stitch.

It’s not just about the item itself; it’s about the story behind it. The hours spent choosing fabric, the decisions made along the way, the small imperfections that prove it was made by human hands. Those stories are part of the gift.

This is why I created Albero’s sewing kits and experiences — to help more people feel that joy of making and giving. It’s not only about the finished bag or accessory, but about the journey of creating something personal, something with meaning.

Making as an Act of Care

At its heart, making is an act of care. Care for yourself — by taking the time to slow down and create. Care for others — by giving or sharing what you’ve made. Care for the planet — by reusing, repurposing, or choosing handmade over mass-produced.

It’s easy to dismiss craft as a hobby, or making as just “something nice to do when you have time.” But I believe it’s more than that. It’s a way of reconnecting with ourselves and each other. It’s a reminder that we’re more than consumers — we’re creators.

And that’s why it feels so good.

This week has been a busy one here at Albero HQ, and it’s left me feeling more inspired than I have in a long time.

A big part of my time has been spent collating information from our wonderful designers for PatternMatch, making sure their beautiful patterns will be easy to search, discover, and fall in love with. Every time I read through their descriptions or browse their designs, I’m reminded of the creativity and artistry in the indie sewing world. There are so many clever details, thoughtful instructions, and downright gorgeous designs out there—it makes me want to dive straight back into sewing clothes again!

I’ll admit, I haven’t sewn garments for myself for a few years now. Life and other projects have taken over, and while I’ve been making plenty of bags and accessories, my dressmaking machine has been a little too quiet. But this week, working on PatternMatch, seeing all these incredible indie patterns—from dreamy dresses to perfectly cut trousers—has completely reignited that spark. I’ve already bookmarked a few that I have to make for myself soon.

Alongside that, I’ve also been working on a bespoke handbag order, which is always such a treat. Collaborating with someone to design their perfect bag feels like a little bit of magic—it’s not just about fabric and hardware, it’s about creating something that will be loved and carried every day.

So, this week has been a lovely reminder of why I do what I do. The indie sewing community is bursting with creativity, and with PatternMatch, I’m so excited to help more people discover it. And who knows? Maybe you’ll see a few me-made clothes popping up on my feed soon… I think it’s time to dust off the garment patterns and start sewing for myself again. 💛

If you’ve never heard of it, Stumpwork is a method of raised, padded embroidery that dates back to the 1600s. Think 3D petals, wings that lift off the fabric, tiny fruits or animals stitched to life. It was used to decorate boxes, panels, and ornate clothing, and it's deeply rooted in storytelling — a technique that was as sculptural as it was decorative. Common motifs such as flowers, animals, fruits and figures were used to creates scenes with a naturalistic or fantastical feel.

I re-discovered the art of Stumpwork recently when I completed a City and Guilds course in machine embroidery. One of the tasks was to take the traditional technique and recreate it using the sewing machine. Not a simple task as the sewing machine is not known for 3D work!

So I started experimenting.

Could I recreate the dimensionality of Stumpwork using free-motion machine embroidery? Could I substitute traditional wire shaping with stitched outlines and layered appliqué? How far could I push this very old technique into a more contemporary, efficient space — without losing its heart?

I decided that I would use flowers and fruits as my subjects, as these motifs were widely evident in the traditional craft. I began by free-machining on a variety of fabric types to assess how successful they would be once wired and stuffed. But nothing was successful in achieving the light and delicate qualities of petals, and it was then that I reached for soluble fabric.

After many hours of trial and error, I finally developed a technique which had the potential to give me the result I was hoping for. I stitched fine wire to the soluble fabric in the shape of the individual petals and then stitched inside, blending the colours of the threads as well as incorporating sheer fabrics to certain areas. It was essential to take care in considering the top and bobbin threads to make sure that both sides of the petal had the correct delicacy of colour blending, and this took some time to achieve. Once the petals were complete, the fabric was washed away, leaving the first components for assembly. I stitched around wires to create the stems, blending colours as I stitched, and used sheer fabrics for the leaves.

It was equal parts frustrating and fascinating. There were moments where it felt like I was breaking the rules — and others where I realised that embroidery has always evolved. Someone, somewhere, had once tried something similar for the first time too.

What I learned is this: sometimes creativity comes not from starting something new, but from reshaping something old. There’s a particular joy in honouring the roots of a craft while finding a new way to make it work for you — your tools, your time, your life.

Screen-Free Sewing Projects for Kids This Summer

The school summer holidays are on the horizon, and for many families, that means finding fun, screen-free ways to keep children busy without resorting to glitter explosions or sticky glue.

Whether you’re sewing with your children or keeping visiting little ones entertained, we’ve gathered a handful of simple, stash-busting sewing ideas that are easy to prepare, satisfying to make, and great for garden play or summer adventures. Let the kids pick their fabrics (or recycle an old garment as we have done), help with the pressing and stitching, and make something they'll be proud of using all summer long!

Soft Fabric Frisbees

These are a huge hit outdoors and super easy to make. Stitch two circles of fabric together (use a bowl as a template), add a layer of interfacing or felt between them for structure, and topstitch around the edge. Light, safe, and perfect for younger kids to throw and catch.

Top Tip - Adding a handful of dried rice or beans before stitching them closed will make them weightier and easier for younger children to throw and catch.

You could even create a mini “Frisbee Golf” game in the garden using baskets or buckets!

Mini Treasure Bags

Perfect for nature walks, these mini tote bags are ideal for collecting shells, feathers, leaves, or pretty pebbles.

Instructions

• Cut two rectangles of fabric and zigzag the raw edges to stop fraying. If using an old garment, try to incorporate useful pockets or interesting details. We used an old pair of jeans and layered pieces of the pockets to the front of the bag.

• Fold 4cm along the top edges to the inside to create a facing and press well. Stitch in place.

• Decide on the length of your handles and cut 2 pieces of fabric. Turn under the short edges and stitch. Do the same for the long edges, then fold in half along the length and stitch the long edges together. Position the ends of the handles evenly. We have stitched ours 3cm in from the sides and 6cm down from the top edge. You could also attach these by hand and add buttons as decoration.

• With right sides together, stitch the two rectangles together, matching all the edges. Stitch the side and base seams.

• Turn through, push out the corners and give it a quick press. Now you’re all set to go treasure hunting!

You could get the kids to decorate their treasure bags with fabric pens, buttons, or felt shapes, which can be stitched or glued in place.

Sunglasses Sleeves

A great scrap-busting project! Use two small rectangles of fabric and a bit of wadding or fleece to sew a padded sleeve. It keeps sunglasses safe in bags, and older kids love choosing their fabric combo.

Fabric Headbands

Headbands are quick, easy, and fun to customise. Choose elastic or tie-back styles and let the kids pick bright, summery fabrics. These make great gifts too, and are brilliant for siblings, cousins or friends to make together.

No-Sew T-Shirt Totes

For a quick, no-sew activity, turn an old T-shirt into a tote bag using just scissors. Cut off the sleeves and neck, then tie (or stitch) the hem closed. Done! A fun way to upcycle and teach kids how to reuse.

Top Tip - Decoration could be added to a plain shirt with fabric pens, embroidery or felt shapes glued or stitched in place.

I love lavender in the garden. It gives such an amazing aroma when you brush past it, especially in the evening. This year, my lavender plants are mature enough to have produced an abundance of flowers, and so I have decided to harvest some of the blooms and enjoy the fragrance well into the winter months.

You can, of course, dry the lavender and display it in a vase. However, I am planning to make gifts with mine to be used in drawers and wardrobes. These pretty sachets are simple to make and are easy to personalise or add decoration to before stitching them together.

If you don’t have lavender growing in your garden, don’t worry, you can buy it ready dried online.

Instructions

1. You can make the sachets in any shape and size you like, draw a shape on paper, add a seam allowance and cut out.

2. Choose your fabrics - this can be the most difficult part!

3. Pin your paper pattern to the fabric and cut 2 per sachet.

4. If you are adding any exterior decoration or personalisation, do this now.

5. Pin the fabric pieces right sides together and pin in place.

6. Stitch around the edge with a 1cm seam allowance, leaving an opening of 3-4 cm to allow for turning.

7. Trim the corners and then the seam allowances down to 0.5 cm.

8. Turn through the opening. Push out the corners and the seams before pressing.

9. Add the dried lavender flowers to the sachet. You can choose how much to add, whatever you like the look of!

10. Close the opening either by stitching close to the edge with your machine or by hand stitching.

11. Hand stitch any hanging ribbons or embellishments in place. A loop at the top makes them super easy to hang from a hanger in your wardrobe!

12. Ta-daa! Now enjoy the fragrance for months to come!

    (You can extend the life of these sachets by adding a few drops of lavender essential oil to the sachet once the fragrance begins to fade. Alternatively, open the sachet and replace the lavender flowers with new ones.)

The route begins and ends in Inverness and can be completed in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction. We chose to drive anti-clockwise, driving north from Inverness along the east coast. This first section from Inverness to John O’Groats was a part of Scotland that we had not visited before, and we were excited to get started!

The east coastline is geographically not as rugged as the west, but it is by no means less beautiful. Pretty villages hugged the coastline, and around every bend, we seemed to come across another wide sandy bay stretching ahead of us. Miles of golden and sometimes white sands, undisturbed by people, with turquoise blue water, was not what we were expecting to find here.

As we progressed along the route, the wide expanses of sand gave way to large craggy outcrops and jaw-dropping cliffs. The sometimes single-track road took us high up into the mountains and then dropped back down into valleys with beautiful lochs edged with lush green vegetation.

We took 5 days to complete the NC500, and as we progressed, the scenery changed from wide sandy beaches to craggy cliffs and steep drops to the sea. But the constant for me was the richness of tone and colour in the countryside. Even on the chillier days, the colours in the landscape have a real warmth to them, a sense of comfort. The colours and the textures have inspired ideas in me and have made me want to reach for my paints and embroidery threads! Watch this space for how my ideas develop over the next few weeks!

There is just so much sky in Scotland! You feel so small in the landscape, and in some places you feel as though you are the only people left on earth! Our entire trip was full of excitement and adventure from start to finish, making it one of our most memorable holidays. If the NC500 is on your bucket list, I recommend you make the trip - I doubt you will be disappointed.
