Are You Entertaining the Kids This Half-Term?
Grab a few basic sewing supplies and whip up some half-term fun ahead of time.
It seems incredible, but next week is half-term for many across the UK. It has come around very quickly, but don’t panic - we have a couple of fun activities for you to try, keeping everyone happy and occupied.
Traditional games for the garden, park or beach
Kids love to play games. Remember when you were young? Hopscotch, juggling, noughts and crosses? Use our pattern to create some supplies for our simple yet fun games to play in the garden, at the park, or on the beach. Small and compact, they will easily fit in your bag to take with you. If the weather is not kind, play indoors instead.
Our pattern uses small amounts of fabric, so you are likely to have plenty available in your fabric stash.
Juggling Balls
Not quite balls, but our juggling pyramids are perfect for some holiday fun. Juggling is a great skill to learn, improves hand-eye coordination, reflexes and concentration, whilst also boosting brain plasticity and can, potentially, help with anxiety and stress. Juggling can also be a fun and engaging activity, providing a sense of accomplishment and confidence as skills improve.
This pattern is based on the Beatrix Pattern Weights digital pattern, which is available via the link below.
Hopscotch
Using the juggling pyramids, mark out a hopscotch grid on the floor and have a fun, family competition. Make different coloured pyramids for each competitor, or get them to customise their own with fabric pens or stitching!
Lawn Darts
Use a large piece of cardboard (perhaps left over from a delivery) and draw a series of concentric circles. Add a value to each circle with the largest value in the central circle. Take turns to throw your pyramids and see who can throw with the most accuracy to get the highest score.
You can also adapt this by cutting a series of holes of different sizes in the cardboard. Stand it up against a couple of garden chairs and throw the pyramids through the holes to score points. Again, make the smaller holes worth a higher value.
Whatever games you play over half-term, I hope you have lots of fun! If you have any other fun ideas to share, please post them in the comments.
Happy sewing!
