Are You Ready for Spooky Season?
Search your stash and see what spooky fabrics you have in store.
For me, Halloween marks the start of the journey towards the end of the year culminating in the festivities of Christmas and New Year. It’s a fun time for children, dressing up and enjoying the thrill of being ‘scared’. The shops are full of fabrics designed to tempt us into making costumes or home decor items. But Halloween fabrics don’t just have to be covered in skeletons and pumpkins.
When I think of Halloween I think orange. Pumpkins, dark orange sunsets, autumn leaves on the ground just waiting to be run through! It’s this feeling that I have tried to encapsulate when looking for fabrics for different sewing projects to take me through this season. Of course, there will be a fun print or two thrown in for good measure …..
This beautiful, rich orange needlecord is a perfect fabric for Autumn. Durable and cosy, this could be used for so many projects.
21 Wale Needlecord, Terracotta, Croft Fabrics
For the dressmakers, I thought that this viscose poplin was a gorgeous print and would make an amazing dress or blouse. This type of fabric has such a lovely drape, and it doesn’t crease!
Indigo Bella by Eglantine et Zoe
This beautiful check makes me think of sitting by a roaring fire under a cosy blanket! Celtic Cookie in Orange by Lewis and Irene
I love the delicacy of this design, it could be used in so many projects as it is quite subtle yet has a playful pattern. Its simplicity is what really appeals to me.
Acorns on sage from the Snuggle Collection by Lewis & Irene
If all things Halloween is your thing, then I think this print may appeal to you. Less obvious than the traditional dancing skeleton yet still appropriate for the season.
Gotas de Amor in dark eggplant by Alexander Henry
Now you can’t get much more snuggly than this gorgeous green boucle. Rich colour and sumptuously soft and warm.
Boucle wool blend fabric in Olive by Guthrie & Ghana
So I hope you enjoyed my roundup of fabrics for the Halloween season and that you are inspired to make something cosy. And of course, it’s TOTALLY your call as to whether it will include skeletons!!
Happy sewing!
