Do You Have BIG Plans This Year?
Set yourself some goals and make a list of all your creative ideas this year.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with having big dreams. In fact, there is arguably something terribly wrong with not having big dreams. The key, I would suggest, is taking those dreams and manifesting them into something tangible.
Dream big!
I openly admit to being poor at managing my goals and dreams expectations, and I am aiming to make some changes this year in an attempt to be better. It’s very easy to set your sights on something, but it can be even easier to let that idea or plan slip through your fingertips simply for the lack of a plan. Getting older makes me appreciate that time may not be on my side and that if there are things I want to achieve for myself, then I have to make it happen - it won’t just magically happen on its own.
So this year I will make big plans and long lists of things I would like to design, create and achieve throughout 2025. The list will be long - intentionally too long - because I know that I will lose interest in some of the ideas and become more focused on others as the months go by. Having a longer than realistic list will allow me to pick and choose rather than abandoning it altogether, hopefully maintaining my motivation and achieving the majority of my goals.
Here goes!
So, here is a list of my creative-related goals for 2025 in no particular order. They do not all include making things - that would be far too easy to stick to! There are skills which I know I need to learn, those which I need to get better at and, amongst them, some sewing too!
So, this is my list so far ….. it is likely to grow throughout the year as I identify areas of improvement, or spot a new technique I just have to master!
Commit to making an item each month from a pre-loved garment.
Learn to transfer my paper designs into digital format.
Find ways to use all of the wonderful equipment I have but don’t utilise to make my work better.
Visit an exhibition at least once a quarter to foster new creative ideas.
Sample technical fabrics and threads and assess how they can be incorporated into my designs.
Set and complete a creative challenge every 2 months or so based on an event or theme to make a ‘showstopper’ item.
Make time to sew for myself as well as for my business.
Now it’s your turn
