Find a Fabric Rabbithole
It's cold outside, so stay inside in the warm and lose yourself down a fabric rabbit hole. Once the warmer days of spring arrive, you will be all set to embark on new projects with beautiful fabrics!
February can be a tough month, with cold, wet weather and grey days. It can be difficult to feel inspired or find the motivation to work on creative projects. With the end of the month fast approaching, I have been browsing new, spring fabrics and sorting out my haberdashery box. For me, seeking out new prints and fabrics generates excitement and conjures up ideas for new projects to sew!
Bold leaves
One of my favourite fabric designers is Kaffe Fassett. His prints are always so incredibly vibrant, and this new design from the Kaffe Fassett Collective is no exception. ‘Palm Leaves’ comes in an array of mouth-wateringly gorgeous colours which surely will never fail to brighten a grey day?

Retro floral
I found this beautiful floral jacquard fabric at Guthrie & Ghani. With a retro feel and a raised texture, this fabric could work well in many sewing projects from clothing and accessories to home decor. The soft blues, pinks and yellows are perfect for spring, reminding us that sunshine, blue skies and blossoms are not far away!

Futuristic Liberty
Liberty has introduced its Spring Summer 2025 collection, celebrating its 150th anniversary. The collection is divided into 4 sections - The Stage, The Cast, The Audience and The Next Act. I have selected a fabric from The Next Act. It is a modern print and quite different from what we perhaps ordinarily associate with classic Liberty. The design is described as ‘tradition and technology meld into one as a bold 1960s floral pattern undergoes a digital metamorphosis’. Perhaps more of the iconic Liberty designs will undergo this transformation?

Bold geometrics
I love florals, but they don’t appeal to everyone or work for every project. Geometrics are always popular and can make a bold statement in a stitched project. I particularly like this print from the Designers Guild. Although formal, I like the ‘coloured-in’ feel of the design, giving it a softer edge, which appeals to me. It reminds me of an aerial photograph depicting fields. This colourway, Forest, has a vibrancy without being too overbearing.

Monochrome
Most of my makes are dominated by colour. However, there is always a place for a monochrome design scheme. This can form the structure of a collection with colour being introduced as accents rather than taking centre stage. I love this print featuring dandelion seedheads. It is strong and bold, but the subject matter creates a sense of delicacy. This print is available in many beautiful colourways, but I feel that this version is particularly striking.

It’s your turn!
So now it’s time to grab a coffee, get comfortable and lose yourself for a while. Fabric hunting, whether in person or online, will spark your imagination and throw up so many ideas to get you making. If you are fortunate enough to have a fabric stash already, perhaps this is the perfect time to rummage and see where your imagination will take you.
Happy sewing,
Suzanne, Charlotte and Rebecca
