One Match. One Make.
Today is the official start of the World Cup Football Tournament. Now, before anyone panics, this isn’t about football.
In fact, whether you’ll be watching every match, catching the occasional score update, or actively avoiding anything football-related for the next few weeks, this little challenge is for you.
The idea is simple:
One Match. One Make.
It’s easy to tell yourself that in order to make anything meaningful, you need an entire day to sew, craft, mend or make something, but we all know that’s not true; that’s procrastination! Instead, why not break out of this mindset and use the length of a football match as your creative time?
A football match lasts around 90 minutes. That’s long enough to make surprising progress on a project.
In 90 minutes you could:
Cut out pattern pieces
Sew a simple accessory
Finish that project that’s been sitting beside your machine
Organise your fabric stash
Learn a new technique - or teach a technique to someone else
Finally sew up that nearly-finished make
And if 90 minutes feels way too ambitious, use half-time.
Fifteen minutes is enough to wind a few bobbins, tidy your sewing space, trace a pattern piece, prepare fabric or tackle one small task you’ve been putting off.
The goal here isn’t to create pressure or race against the clock. The goal is simply to make a little progress.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing project ideas that fit different time windows:
Half-Time Makes
Small jobs and quick wins.
One-Half Projects
Projects you can make in around 45 minutes.
Full-Time Projects
Makes that fit comfortably into a 90-minute sewing session.
Tournament Projects
Larger makes completed over several matches and sewing sessions.
You don’t need special materials.
You don’t need a perfect sewing room.
You don’t even need to watch the football.
Just pick a project, set aside a little time and see how far you get. No pressure.
Are you starting something new, finishing something that’s been on the go for some time, or finally tackling that project you’ve been saving for “when you have time”?
Subscribers will receive Albero’s free ‘One Match. One Make.’ project resources throughout the tournament, helping you to plan your creative time and stay on track. Each week, as well as project ideas and inspiration, you can expect a Tournament Tracker to download and record every project you complete, a 90-minute sewing planner, Sewing Sprint Cards, plus other fun resources throughout the tournament.

What will you be working on during the challenge? Leave a comment and let me know.
Here’s to small stitches, steady progress and a few finished projects by the time the final whistle blows.
Happy sewing!
