Sewing Room Storage Ideas
Even with limited crafting space, these ideas will help to keep your tools and equipment organised and ready for action!
I pretty much live in my sewing room, and I have to confess - it’s not always the tidiest of places! It can be really tricky to balance that creative rush with making sure that everything ends up back in its place for the next make. So here are my ideas to help keep things organised so that your creative time is not spent playing hide and seek!
The Pegboard
This was a game changer for me - the things you need all the time are out and accessible but don’t clutter up those precious sewing surfaces. Organise and re-organise as often as you like! Mine is from Ikea, but there are similar versions from other retailers.
Fabric storage baskets
I absolutely love these baskets. Make them in your favourite fabrics to instantly brighten up your sewing or crafting space. In different sizes they are perfect for sooooo many things, and they’re reversible too! These are made using our Albero pattern.
Drawer storage
If you struggle to keep precious craft components together, my recommendation is a handy tool caddy from your nearest DIY store. Designed to hold nuts, bolts, nails and screws, the little drawers are absolutely perfect for crafting goodies!
But if tool boxes are not the look you are going for, why not reuse pretty boxes and containers like this tiny stack of drawers. It originally contained soaps but it’s now perfect for buttons and safety pins!
Pattern pieces
Some patterns have lots of little pieces and it can be hard to keep track of them sometimes. There is NOTHING that frustrates me more than sitting down to sew only to find that a piece of the pattern is not there!
A sturdy, zipped folder is a great way to keep your paper pattern in one place, safe in the knowledge that next time you want to use it, all the pieces will still be together. Mine were purchased from Amazon and although not made from clear plastic, it is easy to see which pattern is inside so there is no need to label them on the outside.
Precious threads
My threads always used to get tangled up when I kept them in a box. But I was so lucky to be gifted this fabulous thread spool storage unit which holds all my threads. And because the unit fits neatly into my shelf unit, the threads are out of direct sunlight too. Being organised in such a way, it is easy to see what threads I have immediately so I don’t waste time searching for the perfect colour!
These are just a few of my favourite storage ideas. What solutions do you have?
Happy sewing!
